Our leaders set the tone, and employees foster the respectful environment necessary to fuel our innovation and drive us to define the future of product development.<\/p>\n<p>In observance of Juneteenth, our DEI Increasing Employee Resources subcommittee pulled together this blog list of virtual (and in-person) events and resources to provide more opportunities for us all to educate and reflect on the history of Juneteenth.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.juneteenth.com\/history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juneteenth<\/a> is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Note that this was two and a half years after President Lincoln\u2019s Emancipation Proclamation \u2013 which had become official on January 1, 1863.<\/p>\n<p>The Emancipation Proclamation had little impact on the Texans due to the minimal number of Union troops to enforce the new Executive Order.
