Preparing the Word Document

To Import a Microsoft Word document, you'll need to save (File, Save as) it in the "Microsoft Word 2003 XML" format.

Contour imports Microsoft Word documents by evaluating the styles used in a document. The key to a successful import process is to use styles consistently in your document.  Contour can use multiple styles for both requirement names and descriptions.  Additionally, if you use the heading styles within MS Word, Contour will automatically import the document in a hierarchical structure.

Word import is designed primarily for importing textual requirement names and description fields. Jama can create a custom import plug-in if you have specific needs.  Please contact Jama for more information.

Capabilities

Import Item name and description based on paragraph styles in Word such as "Heading 1".
Item names are usually headings.
Keep the hierarchy of the heading structure.
Sections with sub-sections are treated as folders. Sections without sub-sections are treated as Item.

Limitations

Will not import table of contents.
Will not import images, you’ll need to insert these afterwards.
Numbered lists will be imported as bulleted lists.
Does not support styles on text – fancy formatted text will be converted to plain text.
The heading numbers are not imported. (However, these are dynamically generated in Contour.)
