A Contour Project contains information regarding the entire life cycle of a product, whereas a Component is a structural container to organize the product into individual components. Whether Components are used to differentiate a 32-bit software package from a 64-bit software package or to define each of the individual pieces that comprise a bicycle, dividing a Project into Components provides a deeper look into the life cycle of a product.
Each Component can contain any number of Sets of Feature Requests, Requirements, Use Cases, Defects, or other information metric defined in Contour to use in the product development process.
