Contour displays all Items in a read only format by default. There are several advantages to this approach including greater readability and protection from accidental editing of the data.
| 1. | From the target Item's detail or preview view click on the 'Edit Item' button available in the top left had of the panel. Alternately, you can use the Edit Item option available within many of the right-click menus. |
Note: If you do not see the 'Edit Item' button you do not have Write permissions and will need to have your permissions or license upgraded by your Administrator.

| 2. | Contour will open a new window with all of the Item's fields editable. |
Note: If any of the fields are not editable then the Administrator configured the field to be read only. This is common for Contour controlled fields such as "Modified By" or "Created Date".

| 3. | Click on the 'Save' button to intermittently save the updates but keep the editing window open. |
| 4. | Once you are done editing, click on the 'Save and Close' button. |
| 5. | Contour will prompt your for Comments and provide you with a list of groups and users to notify about the update. Users who are subscribed to the item will appear in the Notify window. The X icon removes users from the notify list. Users who are already subscribed cannot be unsubscribed from this view. |
| 6. | If you'd like to subscribe the user or group for future updates to this item, click on the envelope icon. |
Note: Turning off the Notify option will skip the Comment and Notify window.

| 7. | Click on the Commit button to complete the edit and create a new version. |
