Working with Sets

Let's explore a scenario where we need to add a new Set (an Item Type container) in order to create a more customized Set for our specific organizational requirements. Be sure to check if you have the proper permissions in Contour to access certain features when working with Sets. Adding Set Types (the Item Types a Set contains) will require administrative privileges. Modifying the visibility of Sets within a project will require project management privileges. Adding or Deleting a Set from a project will only require write permissions within the Project or Component. Contact your Contour Administrator to be granted any necessary permissions.

To view a Set's Detail

1.A Set will contain Items of the same Item Type. To see the available Item Types a Set can contain in a Project, click on Project -> Configure Project. The Item Types tab will display the available Item Types for the  current project. Item Types can be hidden here to prevent them from being created within a project.
2.To add, edit, configure, delete, or view additional details of an Item Type, see Customizing Item Types for additional information.

Note: Think of an Item Type as a template for your new Set.  All those fields that were in the Item you added were configured in an Item Type.  Since we want to create an additional requirements Set with the exact same fields as the original requirements set.

To add a new Set

1.Click on Add -> Set -> Requirement (choosing the Item Type of the Set).
2.Enter the Set Key to be "NFR01".
3.Enter the Set's name to be "Non-Functional Requirement".
4.Save and close.
5.Select a destination for the Set. Invalid locations are grayed out in the destination window.

Sets in the Explorer

Your new set, Non-Functional Requirements, will be displayed in the Explorer.

1.Drag and Drop the new Set below the original requirements Set.
2.Drag and Drop some of the existing Requirements Items into your Non-Functional Requirements Set.
3.Try dragging a Requirements Item into the Use Case Set.  You'll see that Contour only allows the movement of Items between Sets that were created from the same Item Type.
