Contour Integrated with Selenium for Automated Tests

Contour requirements management tool is now integrated with Open QA’s Selenium core!

We were having trouble testing our own application as it uses Ajax extensively and our test tools were causing us grief.  We switched to Selenium and it’s worked great for us – after a bit of learning.  In fact we liked it so much we’ve embedded Selenium core into Contour and integrated test execution.

It’s pretty slick – though I’m obviously biased.  We now store our requirements, system features, use cases and test cases in Contour.  Relationships are setup so we immediately know the impact of changes.  As development builds out a feature – QA develops a test using Selenium’s HTML table model in Contour using the rich text editor (or Selenium IDE).

Traceability links are setup between the high level requirement, system feature, use case and test case.  From any item – we can see the automated tests that provide coverage.

For running tests, we create test suites (groups of individual tests) and associate them to our iterations (release).  Running tests from within Contour are a click of a button – and each test status is automatically updated.

As we approach the release of iteration, we’ll be able to watch in real time as our test passage % increases to 100%.  If you are developing Ajax (or any other type) of application – you might give Contour with Selenium a try.

    Dear Team Jama,
I just came across your blog while searching for blog entries on Selenium, and I was pleased to find out that you too are a Portland-based company. Before starting Autoriginate, which builds HostedQA, an automated testing tool that builds on top of Selenium and virtualization technologies, I worked as the manager of professional services at Jive Software. I’m also the founder of OpenQA and the creator of Selenium RC.

And on top of the local connection and the Selenium connection, you’re building software that is very closely related to the products my company offers. Small world indeed!

I’d love to chat one of these days are hear more about your plans and your products. Feel free to contact me at the email address provided if you have some time.

    Patrick
